Huub J. M. Rutten, IM Architect

Huub is the founder and sole proprietor of Innovation Management Architects. His expertise has grown over several decades. His scientific background is in linguistic and cognitive sciences; he spent years in teaching, teacher training, and school-book writing. After that he spent several years at the European Institute of Public Administration as Associate Professor for Information Policies and worked with the European Commission.

In 1993, Huub founded PoyDoc, which was IPO-ed in 1997, then renamed Sopheon, a well-known brand for many years, acquired by Wellspring two years ago. Sopheon specialized in software for knowledge intensive processes like R&D. He served this company until this year as Executive Board Member and as VP Research.

Sopheon is widely known for Accolade, its Innovation Management software platform, which has been implemented by more than 300 large companies worldwide, primarily to support New Product Development processes. Huub worked closely with Bob Cooper, the inventor of Stage-Gate NPD.

Each Accolade solution is tailored to the specific organization, because every company has its own dialect in how it works, thinks and communicates; effective solutions must reflect its culture, governance, processes, and data. Experiences with Innovation Management customers and partners have shaped his wealth of expertise in the field, theoretically as well as operationally. Specific attention has been given to management methodologies that realize tangible organic growth from innovation investments.

Huub is a well-known speaker and discussion leader at Innovation Management events. It is his passion to work with companies and their stakeholders to optimize their IM processes to be lean, fast and competitive, which is, in the new AI era, a fascinating challenge.
